What’s all the fuss about?

Most mainland European cities have had Christmas markets for years. The tradition is really strong all over Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Poland. The large town and cities all host these markets and they traditionally start around advent, that’s the 4 week period in the run up to Christmas. As their popularity has grown and they have become huge tourist attractions in their own right they have been extended and now open the weekend before advent starts, so this year that means most markets are open from Friday 18 November.

Like a piece of great art, Krakow could be considered a Polish masterpiece. A city full of history, but thankfully, never mortally wounded by war, its stunning architecture remains intact and the wonderful Gothic, Baroque and Renaissance structures remain untouched by the ravages of mass invasion.

Weekend breaks to Prague

Prague is a top favourite city break and, since the fall of the Iron Curtain, is one of the most visited destinations in all of Europe. Capital of the Czech Republic, the city is small, compact and utterly pretty and picturesque. Deemed a UNESCO World Heritage site, it is easy to understand as the architecture is stunning and some of the city’s landmark buildings are awesome.
